A man was arrested after attempting to break into rapper Drake’s Bridle Path mansion on Wednesday, just a day after a security guard was shot and injured in front of the rapper’s home in an unrelated incident.
“The man didn’t break in. He was immediately confronted at the gate by security and turned over to the police,” a source familiar with Drake’s property told NBC News.
In a statement, Toronto Police said that the person was apprehended under the Mental Health Act and is currently receiving medical attention.
In Ontario, the Mental Health Act allows police officers to apprehend individuals if the officer has reasonable grounds to believe that a person is acting in a disorderly manner and is a threat or at risk of causing harm to themselves or others.
No criminal charges are being laid at this time, but police have confirmed that this case is unrelated to the shooting incident that took place outside of Drake’s home early Tuesday morning shortly after 2 a.m.
Investigations continue into that incident, where a security guard, who was standing outside the gates of Drake’s property at 21 Park Lane Circle, was taken to hospital with serious injuries after being shot. A suspect was spotted fleeing the scene in a vehicle.
“I cannot confirm if Drake was home at the time the incident occurred, but I can tell you that we are in contact with his team and they are cooperating,” Toronto police Insp. Paul Krawczyk told the media at a press conference on Tuesday, adding that “information is very limited at this time.”
There is no confirmation if either incident has anything to do with the rap feud between Drake and Kendrick Lamar. On Tuesday, Krawczyk said that he is “aware” of the feud but police didn’t have a motive at that time as it was too early in the investigation.
Drake (a.k.a. Aubrey Graham) and Lamar have been feuding for years, but their beef has escalated in recent weeks, with both rappers releasing diss tracks against each other.
